Landscape
Sales of all homes utilizing brokers have averaged about 7-8 million transactions during the past three years. 2005 FSBO home sales represented about 12% of all U.S. residential real estate sales. Today, FSBO sales are nearly 20% or about one million homes (according to the National Association of Realtors). However, with about three million homeowners entering the FSBO market each year, about 60% of all FSBO sellers eventually transfer to a traditional real estate agent for a variety of reasons. FSBO’s are driven to sell their own home primarily by the opportunity to save up to 6% in realtor commission, which on the average median home price ($225,000 - $250,000) can save from $12,000 to $15,000. The high level of listing transfers to realtors indicates the unsophisticated level of FSBO marketing knowledge and selling skills. Competition
There are dozens of local and national FSBO website-based companies (e.g. forsalebyowners.com; owners.com; FSBO.com).
